Two Poems by A.J. Huffman

Smoke Signals

by A.J. Huffman

I stare through the heat to feel

the flame. Levels of rainbowing deceit

dance. Deliberately daring me

to ignore

instincts of preservation. Self—

actualization is refracted back

from this strange consumption of

unused breath.

What Stokes the Fire

by A.J. Huffman

Desire.

A need, a want,

a tangible factor

just waiting for hungry fingers

to reach.

A.J. Huffman’s poetry, fiction, haiku, and photography have appeared in hundreds of national and international journals.  She is also the founding editor of Kind of a Hurricane Press.  www.kindofahurricanepress.com
